Canadian $50m Lottery Winner Knew He Would Win
A man from Alberta who had a vision that someday he would win the lottery, was proven right! Randall Rush took home a staggering $50 million after his numbers matched those from the January 16th Lotto Max draw.
Rush was at the Western Canada Lottery Corp's offices in St. Albert this week to collect his check, and told reporters: "I didn't think I was going to win. I knew I was going to win."
His confidence stemmed from a vision he had six years ago of a row of numbers. At the advice of a friend, Rush wrote down the numbers and has been playing them religiously every week.
Last weekend, Rush went out to buy food for his cat and decided to check his pile of lottery tickets. He recalled that the last one scanned by the clerk turned out to be the $50 million winning Lotto Max ticket.
Rush related that as soon as he realized that he was a winner, both he and the clerk started to scream, and at one point he thought he would hyperventilate from excitement.
Charity from Lottery Win
Randall Rush said that it took him less than a "nanosecond" to make the decision to quit his job at a heavy equipment rental business.
Instead, he will dedicate his life and his newfound fortune in helping others less fortunate. Rush said that when he was 26 years of age, he came very close to being homeless and he never forgot the experience.
As such, as soon as he learned about his win, he knew without hesitation that he would help others. He met with bankers and set up a trust fund that would help homeless, hungry children from around the world.
"This is a tremendous amount of money and I'm looking at this like a gift from God and it's a responsibility," said the 46 year old Rush.
Splurging on a Dream Car
But it won't be all serious spending by Rush with his $50 million jackpot win. The self declared "car nut" already has his eye on a 1965 Corvette which he describes as his dream car. He may also buy himself a Porsche.
Rush will also pamper his close circle of friends who are like his family, since he doesn't have a family of his own. One friend, in particular, will get a huge thank you payback, after he didn't hesitate to take Rush in under his own roof when the winner's home burned down over a decade ago.
In 2013, an Edmonton couple also took home $50 million in a Lotto Max draw, making Rush's win the second such jackpot win in less 3 years.
