$31m Thanksgiving Lottery Win for Alberta Couple
Yet another big lottery win has been reported from the province of Alberta, Canada. This time, the lucky winners of a near $31 million Lotto Max lottery jackpot were revealed to the public at a press conference.
Joan and Wade Lidkea of Ritchie, Alberta hit the Lotto Max jackpot last month and, as the only winners, took home the entire kitty - a grand sum of $30,818,287.80!
The couple planned to make all their dreams come true with their Lotto Max win and told reporters just how they would spend their money. Dreams that are about to turn into reality include the purchase of a new RV and a Caribbean cruise.
"I Have All the Numbers"
Joan Lidkea recalled the day of the big Lotto Max. She had purchased her ticket on the Friday of a long weekend, and on Saturday checked the ticket before realizing that she was perhaps a winner.
"I didn't know the amount," she said. "I just said to Wade, 'I have all the numbers!'"
The couple headed to the grocery store to have the numbers checked and Joan said that she didn't know who was more nervous - them or the clerk.
After finding out that they were the sole winners of over $30 million, the couple revealed that "you just sit there stunned."
It took major will power not to reveal their lucky win to their children over Thanksgiving, until the Western Canada Lottery Corp gave the official confirmation.
Plans for $31m Lotto Max Win
The Lidkea's who have been married for 27 years, will put the $31 million to good use.
Both are retired, which gives them plenty of free time to enjoy the money. Plans include trading in their old motorhome to buy a new one since they both love camping.
They also plan to buy a new house although nothing huge. "There's only the two of us, we don't need a big house," said Joan.
