OLG Announces Online Gambling Plans

Ontario to Welcome Online Gambling

The Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corp. (OLG) has revealed its plans regarding the roll out of lottery and casino games in the Canadian province over the course of this year.

The lottery group said that it had chosen a vendor - the UK based Spielo G2 - to provide its platform with online lottery and casino style games which will be made available to local, legal-aged residents by the end of this year.

The new OLG online gambling platform will be released in phases throughout the year. The President and Chief Executive Officer of OLG, Rod Phillips, said: "The move into internet gaming is an exciting step in OLG's modernization."

Online Gambling Platform in Ontario

The addition of an online gambling platform to OLG's portfolio promises an exciting change of pace for local players.

For one, lottery players will be able to buy their tickets to draws such as Lotto 6/49, Lotto Max and Encore through the new website PlayOLG.ca.

The deal with Spielo G2, who won the bid to offer online games through a procurement process, will see that casino games such as video poker, slots and table games are made available to online gamblers.

The OLG said in a press release that "subsequent phases will include bingo, sports wagering, online poker and the introduction of other new products."

Spielo G2, a subsidiary of casino software giant, Boss Media, signed a five year agreement with OLG, with options to renew. Spielo G2 will also provide a player account management system that will implement a responsible gambling program and offer player protection and data privacy.

"Spielo G2 is pleased to provide a solution that will support and enhance OLG's modernization plan to become a more innovative and sustainable organization, while continuing to be a North American leader in Responsible Gambling," said the group's President and CEO, Walter Bugno.

"We will ensure that their entry into the online gaming space meets those goals by providing products and services that will delight players, while adhering to the highest standards of responsible gambling and player protection."

Safe Online Gambling in Ontario

With Ontarians spending over $400 million each year at offshore gambling sites, the OLG certainly felt that there a market for safe, regulated online gambling in the province.

"We are pleased to offer a safe, secure, regulated and entertaining internet gaming option in Ontario where profits will support those things that are important to the people of this province - health care and community infrastructure," said OLG CEO, Rod Phillips.
