Rangers vs Penguins in Saturday NHL Showdown
Tomorrow (Saturday, March 16), the New York Rangers will be on the road when they face the Pittsburgh Penguins in what should be an exhilarating NHL showdown considering how differently the season has unfolded for each.
Rangers Having a Disappointing Season
Coming into the 2012-13 NHL season, the Rangers were highly touted to be one of the most Stanley Cup-worthy teams, but in reality have proved to be somewhat average. As proof of this, they are lying third in the Atlantic Division of the Eastern Conference with 28 points, and eighth in the NHL standings overall.
The same pre-season expectation for success was also thrust on the Pittsburgh Penguins, but they managed to play up to theirs. So much so that they are currently heading the Atlantic Division of the Eastern Conference with 40 points. This has put them joint third in the NHL standings alongside the Montreal Canadiens, behind the Anaheim Ducks and overall leaders the Chicago Blackhawks.
What has become apparent so far this season is that the Penguins have one of the strongest offensives in the NHL, which is why they are leading the league in goals scored with 103. In fact, they are the only team to have cracked the 100 goal mark, with many of their rivals yet to reach 70.
These impressive statistics won't be lost on the Rangers, who boast one of the weakest offensives in the league with no sign of relief to come. In addition, they will be all to aware that having lost both their previous games against Pittsburgh this season, they will be up against it again tomorrow.
Penguins Seek 7th Consecutive Home Win
The Penguins will be looking for their sixth consecutive home victory at Consol Energy Center, and judging by their recent form of late and their average rivals, should have no problem pulling one out. For this reason, they have been posted as the NHL betting favorites at most online sportsbooks, including Bodog.
