Steve Wynn Considering Building Casino in Toronto
Steve Wynn, founder of the Mirage, the Bellagio, and the Wynn, was giving places such as Port Lands, the Toronto Convention Centre, and the Canadian National Exhibition Grounds, the once over a few weeks back. Wynn has long been interested in constructing a casino in Toronto.
Wynn's Innovative Ideas for Casino Construction
In an interview, the casino billionaire had admitted that he would like to do something for people who do not call themselves gamblers. Long back, Steve Wynn wanted to get into a partnership deal with Warner Brothers and construct a casino park based on the movie studio theme on the Canadian National Exhibition Grounds. The project was exciting, but no political party got interested in it, which was why it died a natural death.
Things are however, different now as prominent casino companies such as the Tropicana, the Sands, Caesar's Palace, and the MGM are all hunting for opportunities in Toronto. Although Wynn's visit to Toronto to look things over has been confirmed, the casino entrepreneur himself is now travelling and is yet to make any confirming statement.
Experts believe that Wynn's ability to think innovatively will add a new layer of excitement to the establishment of a casino in Toronto. However, long before any Vegas style casino can the established in Toronto, the council and Mayor Ford must first give their approval.
Toronto Could Benefit from Casino Construction
Councilor Giorgio Mammoliti, who has been lobbying hard for a land casino, said that it is a great chance for Toronto to rake in revenue from several sectors, adding that the government must somehow get it right.
However, Councilor Adam Vaughan definitely does not want a downtown casino while Kyle Rae, former councilor, feels that it is a better idea to establish a casino in Markham.
In brief, the pros and cons of each project and possible location for a downtown casino must be discussed before a decision can be taken. Each location has its own advantages and disadvantages. For example, although the Front St. project promises a state-of-the-art tourist hotspot, it will have an adverse effect on the daily routine of the people.
Interested casino companies will be given a fair chance to present their plans before the government. Ultimately, the project has to be beneficial for the city as well as for the casino gaming operator.
