WSOP Circuit Event Coming to Canada
The end of this month will see the launch of the World Series of Poker Circuit Event in Canada for the first time, offering BC poker players the chance to take part in one of the most prestigious poker tournaments in the world.
Ten events have been lined up at the River Rock Casino in BC between the dates of October 27 and November 7, 2012. In addition, two online events have been scheduled on November 18 and 25 through the province's official online gambling site, PlayNow.com, run by the British Columbia Lottery Corporation (BCLC).
The two online events are open to residents of BC and Quebec and, naturally, players need to be of legal age to participate.
Play Poker with Luongo
One of the biggest drawcards to the planned World Series of Poker Circuit Event for Canadian players is that they will have the opportunity to play with top ice hockey player and poker pro, Roberto Luongo.
The goaltender for the Vancouver Canucks of the National Hockey League has been a familiar face on the Canadian poker circuit for a number of years, representing PlayNow.com at the recent World Series of Poker tournament in Las Vegas, and regularly playing with players on the site. He was placed 639th out of 6,598 entrants at the WSOP 2012.
Speaking of Luongo's presence at the River Rock Casino WSOP Circuit Event, the Vice President of Entertainment, Communications and Responsible Gaming for the casino, Howard Blank said: "This is huge news for poker players. Not only are we expecting some of Canada's premier poker players, but we're excited to announce that Roberto Luongo is scheduled to make an appearance and play during the Main Event."
River Rock Casino Attracts Poker Players
Blank said that having Luongo take part in the Canadian World Series of Poker Circuit event at River Rock Casino Resort was a true milestone.
"Luongo is a talented poker player and I know many players are ready to sit at the table with such an amazing athlete," he said. "River Rock Casino Resort is a well-established premium poker destination for local and international players."
