Oilers vs Maple Leafs - NHL Betting Preview
Tonight (Monday, February 6) the Edmonton Oilers will travel to take on the Toronto Maple Leafs in what should be a nail-biting NHL matchup at Air Canada Centre, considering how well both teams have being playing of late, but particularly the home team.
Can Maple Leafs pull off Third Straight Shutout
It won't be lost on NHL betting fans that tonight the Maple Leafs could pull off their third straight shutout, especially if uber talented goaltender James Reimer keeps the home team's goal puck free. If they pull off another shutout tonight, it will mark the first time in over eight decades that the Toronto team has managed such a feat.
In their previous matchups, the Maple Leafs beat the Senators 5-0, and before them the Penguins 1-0. So, the million dollar betting question is whether the Leafs can stop their Edmonton rivals from scoring even a single goal? If Reimer has anything to do with it, the answer is a very likely yes, especially considering his status in his team.
Last season 23-year-old Reimer earned the honor of being named Toronto's No. 1 goaltender as a rookie, after he went 20-10-5 with a 2.60 goals-against average. That said, a slew of inconsistencies and concussion-esq symptoms have stopped the youngster from achieving the same honor this season. But for now, his form is rock solid.
'I really wanted to step it up a bit and the only way I know how is to work hard and do what I think is right and so I went home and got in a little better shape,' said Reimer. 'I'd never have guessed it would come with back-to-back shutouts. That's a lot of fun to experience.'
Gagner been Scoring Machine in last Three Games
It is important to point out that while the Maple Leafs have Reimer, the Oilers also have a not-so-secret weapon in the form of fast forward Sam Gagner, who has been finding the back of rival nets with impressive regularity. Gagner has racked up a none-too-shabby six goals and six assists in the Oilers' last three games.
Not only that, but against Chicago last Thursday, Gagner tied an NHL franchise record by earning all eight points in the team's 8-4 victory. Not content with that performance, he followed that up with two goals and one assist before finding the back of the net again in last Saturday's 5-4 shootout victory against Detroit.
Said Gagner's teammate and center Ryan Nugent-Hopkins, 'Sam has been a lot of fun to watch. I'm really happy for him. It was a big character win for us.'
What this all means is that tonight's big matchup should be exhilarating to watch and bet on considering one of the NHL's top goaltenders will have to fend off one of the League's best scorers. Here are the latest NHL odds at Bodog online sports betting site.
