Three immigrants who came to Canada from Poland to improve their quality of life didn't imagine that 20 years later, they'd hit a $50 million lottery jackpot and prove that dreams really do come true.

The three Toronto bakery workers amassed a $16.6 million fortune each after hitting the Lotto Max jackpot.

The prize was won on March 11th, but it took them a few days to gather their wits after realizing their windfall, and come forward to collect their prizes.

Eugeniusz Borek and his friends Zdzislaw Modlinski and Wloziemierz Konieczny bought the winning ticket together.

Borek said that he didn't checking the Lotto Max winning numbers on the Saturday after the draw because he was too tired from working all day.

It was only on Monday that he got round to checking the numbers on several lottery tickets bought with his friends and the winning ticket was the first one he looked at.

"I was screaming, jumping, crying. I don't know; I was very, very, happy," he said.

Modlinski's daughter added: "I think after working for 20 years in the bakery, especially my father who worked on nightshifts, I think they really deserve this."

"Just being an immigrant and not speaking the language causes a lot of barriers, so I think that this will definitely open up a lot of doors for them to have a better standard of living," she added.

Since September 2009, there have been no less than eight jackpot winners in Ontario alone.
