One of the things that can affect a horse's finish in any race is its position at the start of the race.

After a draw this week to determine which horses will be placed in which position at the start of the races at Churchill Downs this weekend, some trainers came out satisfied, while others less so.

Goldikova, the fantastic French mare who is trained by Freddie Head, was drawn out in post ten this year, much to the disappointment of Head.

Goldikova is going for her third consecutive title in the Breeders Cup Mile - and if she wins, will become the first horse to earn a hat-trick in this race.

Aidan O'Brien's Beethoven was drawn for the inside rail in one.

A more favourable draw was Gio Ponti's position in three, making him the top American favourite in this race.

Odds for Goldikova are currently 6-5, against Gio Ponti's 4-1.

Paco Boy, positioned in post 6, has odds of 6-1 offered, and Delegator, in post 5, with odds of 12-1.

Beethoven, in post one, has odds in the 20s.

Moving on to other races and favourites, Workforce has been positioned in post six for his Turf race, coming in strong after recently winning the Derby and the Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe.

Midday is in a comfortable post seven when she goes for her second Filly and Mare Turf victory this Saturday.
