In terms of history and experience the Texas Rangers are severely overmatched in their American League championship series tilt with the New York Yankees. It might prove fatal, but in terms of ability these teams are pretty evenly matched on paper, and the betting value may well lie with some shrewd wagers on the AL West team that has everything to prove.

Our feeling is that Game 1 will determine this series as Sabathia goes against Wilson. The Rangers have to push Lee to a Game 3 start and if he comes in with the Rangers already down 0-2 they will not be able to be saved regardless of how well he pitches. It is a foregone conclusion (in our minds) that the Yankees will win Game 2 behind Pettitte. You can mark that one down as a good bet on New York.

Texas really need a win to get started and there is a chance they could get it, but if they lose Game 1 they will be very vulnerable. Everyone expects the Yankees to win, and that "everyone" probably includes a few Rangers as well who might lack the self-belief to get the job done.

At the end of the day the Rangers can lose here and still say they have had their best season ever. Defeat for the Yankees would mean failure and that might make all the difference in this series, it usually does when New York takes on one of the AL minnows.
