Canada Unlikely to Host World Cup for at Least 24 Years
The chances of the FIFA World Cup being hosted in Canada within a quarter of a century are remote.
This was the opinion of the General Secretary of the Canadian Soccer Association who dismissed any hopes of seeing the World Cup on home turf before 2034.
Peter Montopoli believes that the United States has a good chance to host the soccer event in 2018 or 2022, meaning that Canada's chances are significantly lowered.
Although FIFA does not officially rotate the World Cup from one continent to the next, it is well know that the association spreads the tournament around the globe from event to event.
Soccer is a hugely popular event in Canada, and some may be surprised to learn that more people play this game than they do hockey.
But while there is little hope of seeing the men's World Cup in Canada before 2034, Montopoli says that there is good reason to believe that the Women's World Cup could be held in the country in 2015.
In the meantime, this year's World Cup is keeping Canadians enthralled with top notch action.
CBC reported that its audience averaged close to two million viewers for the live coverage of the World Cup quarter finals, with the highest rated game of the quarter finals being Germany's 4-0 win over Argentina.
The highest rated game the entire season was the US - England game during the opening tournament of the World Cup, which drew a record 2.275 million viewers.
This was the highest Canadian audience ever recorded in the preliminary round of a World Cup game.
