The Saskatchewan Gaming Corp announced last week that it could name its new President and Chief Executive Officer after a nation wide search.

Twyla Meredith, who has been serving as acting President and CEO of the corporation as the search was on, has been granted a permanent position in the same capacity.

"After a Canada-wide search was conducted, we were extremely pleased to find our new president and CEO from within the SGC organization," said the Minister responsible for gaming, Bill Hutchinson.

Before stepping into the role as acting CEO, Meredith served as senior Vice President of Finance with the corporation.

"I've been here since day one, before he casino opened," said Meredith. "I'm the first home grown president that they've had... after 15 years of operation."

Meredith said that it was a real privilege to be appointed in this new role and said that she appreciated the confidence that has been shown by making the appointment permanent.

The Saskatchewan Gaming Corp owns and operates Casino Regina and Casino Moose Jaw, and is regulated through the regulatory authority of the Saskatchewan Liquor and Gaming Authority.

Around three million people are entertained by the casinos each year, and over 1000 people are employed by these establishments.

The Saskatchewan Gaming Corp transfers its profits to the provincial General Revenue Fund and profits are directed to a number of trusts, including the Metis Development Fun and the First Nations Trust.

Twyla Meredith replaces previous president and Chief Executive Officer Marty Klyne who stepped down in 2008 to accept another position.
