Superstition and Canadian Online Gambling

As an avid Canadian online gambling fan, I have long-realized that superstition can play as bigger role in the outcome of a particular online gambling session, as you make it. Now, I know that half of you reading this are thinking 'what a load of horse pucky' while the other half are thinking 'that is so right'. The truth is that superstition is nothing more than a by-product or a mental manifestation of hope and faith.

By hope, I am referring to that uniquely human trait where we believe by imagining something good, that the opposite won't happen. For instance, we all hope that we'll live a long time, that our kids won't grow up to be lazy louts or serial killers, that we'll win Canada's biggest lottery jackpot one day, and that North Korea won't actually use its nuclear weapons in anger.

And by faith I am not talking about your self-imposed suspension of belief that when you die one day you'll actually ascend to a lofty place in the clouds with the aid of white-winged angels. No, by faith I mean that 'belief' that by stroking your lucky dice, or by rubbing your four leaf clover or by tapping your forehead four times with your left foot that you have appeased the superstitions. And by doing so, that you will actually be a step closer to winning a large payout or two, or even a whopping progressive jackpot, and hence a step closer to buying your dream boat.

The point I am trying to make is that just like you don't think about your next breathe or your next blink (you just know that your body will continue to take in oxygen and lubricate your eyes) the opposite is pretty much true of online gambling. Just because you click to spin the reels, throw the dice or discard a card for a new one over again, doesn't mean that your desire to win will be met, no matter how strong your particular level of hope or faith is.

But before you think I'm trying to depress you or turn you off online gambling, think again. I am actually trying to do just the opposite.

The underlying truth about online gambling is that people win all the time and there is absolutely no reason (when you think about it) why it shouldn't be you. Sure, you may believe that your lucky dice, four leaf clover or head tapping may help your chances at a Canadian online casino, or you may think just the opposite, that superstition is a load of old horse pucky.

But the fact is that no matter what you think or believe, one thing is for sure and that is that you have just as much chance of winning as the next person. And that, my friends, is what makes online gambling so dynamic and exciting.
