There is a smorgasbord of NFL betting lines for fans to choose from each NFL season, but as something of an American football betting expert (despite being as Canadian as maple syrup and ice hockey), I'm often asked what my top 5 NFL betting lines are. So, being the good guy I am, I'm happy to share them with you today.

I am a big fan of NFL outrights (outright bets), which are long-term bets on which teams or individuals (in the context of the NFL) will win their particular division, conference, Super Bowl or MVP etc. What I love about outrights is that you can place them at the start of each NFL season, and sit back as they play out in front of you.

So without further ado, these are my top 5 NFL betting lines in order of preference:

1. Super Bowl Winner. In the NFL this is the 'big enchilada' of outrights, because in professional football there is no greater achievement for an NFL franchise than to win the Super Bowl. And right now at online sportsbook Bodog, last year's champions, the Green Bay Packers, are tied with the New England Patriots to bring home the Vince Lombardi trophy. But for my NFL betting buck, the Pittsburgh Steelers will go all the way.

2. AFC Conference Winner. The NFL is split into two conferences, the AFC Conference and the NFC Conference, each with 16 teams. In the playoffs, the two biggest games leading up to the Super Bowl are the AFC Championship and the NFC Championship games respectively, because the winners of meet in the Super Bowl. The Patriots, the Chargers and the Jets are favored to win the AFC Conference, but I'm backing the Pittsburgh Steelers.

3. NFC Conference Winner. This is a toughie to call, because on one hand you have the Green Bay Packers who are leading the betting to win the NFC Conference (and who are still be brimming with confidence after winning Super Bowl XLV), and on the other the Philadelphia Eagles, who seem to be champing at the bit to finish top of the table this season. But for my NFL betting buck, the third favorite Atlanta Falcons will rise to the occasion.

4. NFL Divisional Winners. Each NFL conference contains four divisions of four teams each, and these are a series of outrights designed to predict which teams will place first in their respective divisions. The following are the teams I believe will excel this season and come out tops in their divisions en route to the playoffs:

NFC North - Green Bay Packers
NFC South - Atlanta Falcons
NFC West - St. Louis Rams
NFC East - Philadelphia Eagles
AFC North - Pittsburgh Steelers
AFC South - Indianapolis Colts
AFC West - Kansas City Chiefs
AFC East - New England Patriots

5. NFL MVP Winner. Short for most most valuable player, this an outright where you can bet on an individual player from the NFL who has proved to be the biggest asset to his team during the season. Although Bodog has Green Bay Packers QB Aaron Rodgers as the favorite to be named MVP this season, for my NFL betting buck New England Patriots QB Tom Brady will be the season's playmaker.

And that folks is my top 5 NFL betting lines.
